UWCNM has awarded 52 Community Impact, Basic Needs, and Capacity Building grants totaling $2.1 million to health and human service agencies as part of its efforts to invest in stronger communities. The 2020-21 Community Impact Fund grantees in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties focus their efforts on family stability and improving education.
Collectively, the grants help families build foundations for lifelong health, learning, and social and emotional wellbeing. They help ensure that students are safe, curious, and achieve in school; that young adults are engaged and attending school regularly and have a solid career exploration foundation, and that adults can find a pathway to higher education.
Capacity Building grants support agencies with staff development and professional training, data systems, convening and/or collaborative support, and community organizing for nonprofits doing this type of work. Basic needs grants are used for food, medical, and housing insecurity, including emergency needs.

During the 2019 annual campaign, UWCNM raised $17.6 million, including $1.2 million in COVID-19 relief. In addition to the $2.1 million granted, UWCNM will distribute donations in the amount of $9,375,000 million to more than 3,284 agencies and their programs per donor-designated requests.
UWCNM also invests $2.5 million in its impact work which creates educational opportunities and helps families build resiliency through its initiatives and programs: Mission: Families, Mission: Graduate, 2-1-1 information and referral service, Graduate! ABQ, Family Advocacy Center, and Tax Help New Mexico.
UWCNM’s Community Impact Fund grant awards are informed by community volunteers who review agency financials and program grant applications, recommend grant awards, based on available funding. The process is managed by UWCNM’s Community Investment Team and Community Investment volunteers, and the grant awards are ratified by UWCNM’s Board.
