Day of Caring 2025

Day of Caring 2025 Recap

United We fill the Pantry

The 2025 Day of Caring centered on the theme “Fill the Pantry,” spotlighting food insecurity across North Central New Mexico. The event united corporate and community partners through a large-scale community food drive, an impact-focused resource fair, and an ALICE Simulation illustrating the realities faced by working families.

Fifteen workplace teams hosted food drives, collecting nearly 3,200 pounds of food for eight local nonprofits — from The Storehouse and St. Felix Pantry to Family Promise and Catholic Charities. Each organization received about 400 pounds of food, helping stock their shelves and ease the strain many families face.

At the Resource Fair, community partners and UWNCNM programs connected in person, strengthening relationships and increasing awareness of the services that keep families stable.

The ALICE Simulation gave participants a glimpse into the daily challenges that working families face when trying to make ends meet, sparking empathy and inspiring continued action.

To close out the day, UWNCNM CEO Rodney Prunty sat down with Jason Riggs from Roadrunner Food Bank for a conversation about hunger in our region. Their discussion reminded us that collaboration is essential to building a stronger, more resilient community.

Day of Caring also received special media attention, including an NM Living segment with Trish Marquez and Ashley Martinez-Brown, and a story from KRQE highlighting the energy and compassion that filled the day.
